On our Saint Florentin to Meaux Barge Cruise route we stop off at the Barbizon School of Painters.
The Barbizon school of painters takes its name from the village of Barbizon in France, near the Forest of Fontainebleau. It was active from 1830 through to 1870 and some of its most renowned themes were tonal qualities, colour, loose brushwork and softness of form. This movement’s influence can also be found in later work across Europe and the United States.

Our visit to Barbizon combines two of France’s best-known qualities. Picturesque, charming villages and deep artistic culture. After taking in the local art galleries, stroll the village’s beautiful shops and restaurants.
